Bury ran out 4-1 winners over Barnoldswick Town debutant Louis Jeanne and Gaz Peet spoke to the club to give us their thoughts.
Today’s debutant defender Louis Jeanne spoke about why he decided to join the Shakers with him saying “t’s just a massive club, isn’t it? Obviously, playing against you last year, a great opportunity for me. I’m a local. I live in Radcliffe, so I’m local enough. The opportunity, I couldn’t turn it down.”
Gaz then spoke about whether it was annoying to not keep a clean sheet despite the defence’s performance today.
Gaz Peet: “Yes, you could say that. We’re all gutted that we didn’t keep a clean sheet. We’re probably more gutted coming off. We’ve made it, we’ve got the three points, but when your 4-0 up, 92nd minute, we’ve worked so hard. I don’t think they’ve had many shots, if any. That clean sheet is really, really important, especially off the back of West Didsbury a couple of weeks ago. It is coming. It’s just a bit of a shame how it happened. We can just do better in that situation, but overall, obviously, we’re made up, but a bit gutted about the clean sheet.
Gaz then spoke about playing in a makeshift back four today considering they hadn’t played much together, he said: “I thought that was really easy, to be honest, because if you look along our back line, with who was in there, obviously, Louis has come in, Aaron [Chalmers] has just come back and Nicky Adams. It’s a back four you’d probably never believe would ever come together as a four, but when it did, again, I thought we were brilliant all over as a back five, with Mitch as well in net. So, yes, it was a really, really easy game to obviously lead out for the lads. We’ve got a lot of big characters in there now, which helps. Overall, I’m just made up, obviously, with how well we sort of gelled and came together when we’ve not played together before.
Louis then spoke about next week match against Lower Breck and his experience in a title charge, he said: “I mean, every game’s a big game. When you want to win a league, you want to challenge for titles. Every game’s important. Three points for everything. It doesn’t matter who you’re playing. Obviously, they’re off the back of a good result, but so are we. So, we’re going to go into that game full of confidence”
Gaz then added onto this by saying “Yes, Lower Breck are a really, really good side. So when we played them at their place, I think they gave us I mean, I know they beat us, but they moved the ball well. They’ve got a lot of really, really good players. But it’s Gigg Lane, so we just need to make sure we do what we’ve done today. We work hard and stuff. I’m really confident going into that game, as Lower Breck will probably be as well. But I mean, we’re both sort of doing really well. We’re at the top end of the pitch. But it’s a must-win game, I think, for both. We’re both challenging. So, we’ll look at that with confidence and build on what we’ve done today.”
