Following a disappointing result away at Irlam Defender Connor Pye gave us his thoughts on the match when he spoke to the club.
Connor Pye: “It was a very tough one to take because we need to be killing these sorts of games off so we’re not chasing later on because 1-0 is not a good scoreline to chill with.”
Connor then gave us his thoughts on whether he agreed with the sentiment that the game could’ve gone either way, he said: “I feel like we dominated large parts of the game but Irlam are a good side with good individuals but it doesn’t matter if you play good football if you can’t get the ball into the back of the net so we can play all the good football we want but if it’s 1-0 and they get a scrappy goal than it means nothing so we need to learn that and start putting games to bed when you have the chances early on. It will make our lives easier.”
He then spoke about why they couldn’t put the game to bed tonight, he said “Our squad is filled with great players and that makes a great team. But there’s a lot of games left and a lot of time to fight and I know the lads will fight for it, but it was just one of them games.”
Connor then told us what it’s like to play alongside new boy Aaron Chalmers with the defender saying “Good, It’s also nice to know that I have that defensive stability at the back and that’s given me more of a licence to run forward and he’ll organise us so if I’m getting too high, he’ll tell me to tuck in and he’s also a very good player.”
He then finished the interview by looking at this weekend’s clash against Abbey Hey, he said: “We need to get the 3 points 100% we know what Abbey Hey will throw at us and we know it’ll be tough but our only goal is to get the 3 points.”
