Following a 2-2 draw today against fellow title chasers Ramsbottom United defender Gaz Peet spoke to the club to give us his thoughts on today’s game.
Gaz Peet: “Yes, it was a good game, I think, for everyone. I thought we played very well in the second half, but it was the credit to Rams, they played and put us under pressure in the first half. I think a couple of mistakes cost us. Overall, I’d like to say that we deserve three points, but we’ll take that.”
Gaz then told us about whether the game played out how he thought it would, with him saying “Yes, again, I’ll go back to it. I think we had a couple of, you’d call it, mistakes. I think just phases of play, what then led to the goals. I think we’re just really disappointed in that. I don’t think we should be doing better in those situations. That way, it doesn’t lead to a goal. We’re then chasing the game twice. It’s a bit of a shame because I thought overall our play was really, really good. I think our movements and getting into the final third were really good. I thought we created a lot of chances. Yes, it’s disappointing, I think, for everyone”
He then spoke about the fans after a fantastic turnout for today’s fixture, he said: “No, the fans are unbelievable again. They’re singing throughout. I said it in an interview a couple of weeks ago, when the Boxing Day fixture comes out, and especially now it’s led to the top two playing each other, it was always going to be a good atmosphere, a good game, and one to look forward to. It lived up to that. Obviously, we felt like we owed the fans three points. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get that. We’re happy we didn’t lose the game. I think it was a little bit more than that. Once you keep chasing the game, you’re constantly trying to get your head in front of them. We just couldn’t do that today. Like I said, credit to Ramsbottom for that. They played really well, played to their strengths, and again, put us under pressure in certain periods, it’s sad.”
To finish the interview Gaz looked ahead to this weekends clash with Prestwich with him saying “Yes, it’s a quick turnaround, but it’s good because you can end up with three points Friday and one point today. You could end up with seven points in a week, and that’s what we want to do. We want to build momentum now and build a run, and that’s what’s going to win us this league, which is what we want to do. Although it’s a quick turnaround, we’ve got lads who were chomping at the bits of the play, or you’ve got lads who just needed a game off. Obviously, Bobby [Carroll] wasn’t fit today through illness, I think a couple of lads are not too good in there. It’s just going to be one of them. If we can get three points on Saturday, and that’s what we’re aiming to do, then again, it’s been a very, very good performance.”
