Following a disappointing 4-0 defeat for the Shakers away at West Didsbury & Chorlton, veteran midfielder Nicky Adams spoke to the club to give us his thoughts on the game.
Nicky Adams: “Yes, not good enough. Not good enough as a group, you know, from start to finish. I think we’re nowhere near it, especially the standards that we’ve set the last few weeks. Obviously, since I’ve come in, we’ve been really, really good but that today is not good enough and we’ve let the gaffer and the staff down. We didn’t listen to instruction. We knew it was going to be tough. Fair play to Didsbury. They were good on the day, and they fairly deserved the three points. But I’ve just said in the dressing room then, you know, obviously we’ve made mistakes first half for the goals, but we’ve got to help each other and get people out of trouble a little bit. We didn’t do that. And then obviously the second half was the same again. So, yes, massively let the manager and the staff down today because they gave us everything that we needed. But hopefully that’s just a blip today and we go on another little run.”
He then spoke to us about what he thought the problem was with today’s performance with him saying “es, we knew it was going to be tough, obviously a difficult pitch. It was difficult to actually play out the way we wanted to play. But you’ve got to come to places like this and find a way to win and get a result. And obviously, you know, like I say, fair play to Didsbury. They did that better than us. You know, like I say, we need to help each other out when someone has a tough moment in a game and a mistake happens. We need to get them out of it a little bit. And we just didn’t do that. Like I say, we just dusted ourselves down, have a good week’s training and there’s a long way to go. You know, we’ve got 15 games left. I know from experience a lot can happen in between then. So, you know, we just stay in the race. And it was an off day from everyone today and we go again. Looking to next Saturday against Isle Of Man.”
Further adding “Yes, of course. You know, we’ll bounce into training this week. No one will be feeling sorry for themselves. Like I say, it’s a good group in there: talented players and good side. But, you know, today we just, for one reason or another, didn’t go our way and you know, you’ve got, I think just sometimes, like we say, I can speak highly of everything since I’ve came in. It’s been good. And, you know, we’ve dominated every game we’ve played in, to be honest. But today wasn’t that day. But you can’t always win the same way of playing like that. So, you know, like I say, we take it on the chin today. That’s on us as players. You know, like I say, we’ve let everyone down today. We’ve let down the fans who have come here. You know, look at the numbers that came in today. But I think they know that it’s only a blip, and you know, we dust ourselves down, train hard this week, and go into bouncing next week. And hopefully, like I say, go on another run. Because that’s all that you can really do now.”
