The Shaker won 3-2 on Tuesday Night to extend their lead at the top of the NWCFL, striker Ruben Jerome spoke to the club to give us his thoughts on the game.
Ruben Jerome: “I thought we started extremely slow, probably took us about 35 minutes to get going, gradually grew into the game obviously after we got the equaliser, 2-1 up, conceded sloppily again and then obviously the late winner which was nice and I felt like we deserved it overall second half, yeah.”
He then spoke about how the change in the teams tactics has helped him since returning to the side, he said: “Good, obviously being able to come back in and try and contribute and get us over the line, now we’re obviously in the back end of the season, it’s been a bit of a frustrating season for me overall, just on a personal level from what I’ve been able to contribute towards the team, but yeah just trying to keep my head down, work hard and obviously like I say contribute towards the team and help us get three points.”
Ruben then spoke about the teams achievements this season as the Shakers scored their 100th goal of the season, he said: “Yeah, as we’ve seen all season these goals in the forward line, we’ve brought players in on the forward line and they’ve obviously scored goals from the clubs that they’ve been at previously as well, so we’re confident, we always feel like we’re going to score goals and obviously the return has shown that.”
He then spoke about the difficulty they’ve had facing FC Isle Of Man this season with him saying “Yeah, they’re a tough opposition, like you say we equalised late on at their place and got the winner late again tonight, but every team in this league is tough, we’ve got another tough game Saturday, so take it game by game, stay together as a group and try and obviously work towards the target that we’ve got as a club.”
To finish the interview Ruben looked ahead to Saturday’s match against Prestwich Heys with him saying “It’s a tough place to go, like I say it’ll be a tough surface, and I think they’ve won again tonight against West Didsbury, which are obviously a good team, but we’ll go there with the confidence that we’re obviously going to win. No doubt the fans will travel in the numbers like they always do to support us, and yeah, we’ll just go in there and hope that we can get three points and kick on to the next game next week.”
